The Greening of Byron Center Schools

The hot water and heating systems at Byron Center MI schools were over 50 years old and as stunningly inefficient as one could imagine. When ex-principal Doug Gallup took over as facilities operations director in 2012 he began an aggressive program to remedy this wasteful situation. With current improvements the heating and cooling costs have gone down 30% and other energy costs are down significantly and more changes are planned. In November I traveled to Byron Center and photographed the operations rooms in two of the schools.
